The untrodden paths..
A little girl walked up to her mother in an airport and asked her, ''maa, who are these beautiful girls in similar dresses?'' The mother replied, ''They are airhostesses.'' The girl with sparkles in her little eyes, ''Maa I also want to become an airhostess.'' The mother immediately held her hand and said,''No sweetheart, these are not good professions, I want you to be a doctor. Do you know how much a doctor gets money?'' The girl in confusion said, ''But maa I want to...'' The mother didnt allow her to even complete her sentence and distracted her with something else.
Yes, this is something that I witnessed in Indira Gandhi International Airport,New Delhi. I was really shocked by the conversation between the mother and daughter. In a country like India, in fact in an independent country like India the youth is not allowed to make their own career decisions. The question that arises is ''WHY?''. A very simple question with thousands of answers.
We live in a country where there are only two so-called ''secure'' careers i.e. engineering and medical. Maximum number of children are forced to opt for these professions.
The question that I want to ask the Indian parents is that, ''Have you given birth to a robot?'' Because a human has all its rights to choose where he wants to see himself in the future.
Other professions are treated as ''the untrodden paths'' because nobody dares to walk on them. But there are certain people who have fought for their own choices and have walked on these untrodden paths. Dont they have a life? Dont their parents love them? When I ask the question ''why?'' to this situation, the answer is simple: ''to let the child breathe himself ''.
A child is like sailor where the boat is the career and waves are the parents. The parents should help the child to ride on a strong boat and move the boat forward.
